It’s day two of Nanowrimo and I’m still going strong. I already have some minor discontent with my story, however. Remember, this is my first year as a true pantser. No plan, no plot, no outline. I’m just winging it here and I find that to be frustrating and exhilarating all at once. Here are my overwhelming issues so far:
- I hate the name of my antagonist. It’s already changed several times from Marco to Marcell to Mitchell and back to Marcell (I seem to be stuck on M’s for some odd reason).
- I already know that the story I’m writing so far is NOT the story I’m suppose to tell. Most of it (if not all of it) will end up on some forgotten flash drive somewhere never to see the light of day again.
- I feel like this is more of a character development exercise that I’m completing in preparation for a novel than an actual attempt to write a novel.
Don’t get me wrong. None of the above is bad. I mean names can change in editing. the story I’m suppose to tell is bound to show up in the next 40,000 words or so, and character development is essential to any good story. So, I’m not upset or panicking. I don’t feel like my time is being wasted. To me the whole goal of Nanowrimo is to get words on paper, to develop the skill of writing by doing it daily, to push the limits or creativity, and to gain a sense of comfort with writing utter crap… lol…
For those of you participating in Nanowrimo this year, what’s the title of your story? Why did you choose the name you did?
