Nanowrimo 2015 Blog: Day 1

shutterstock_27763000It’s November 1st. Do you know what that means?

Nanowrimo! Nanowrimo! Nanowrimo!

Yesssssss… it’s that time again.

This year, for the third year in a row, I will be participating in Nanowrimo. For those of you who may not know, Nanowrimo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it is is a time when us writers get together and attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 short days. It’s great fun with word sprints, pep talks, writing buddies, forums, and write-ins.

It’s day one and thousands of writers all around the world have committed to writing 50,000 words in November. That’s something like 1,667 words per day. 1,667!! That’s a lot of words to produce consistently in one day. Nanowrimo is most definitely a challenge but it is one I have conquered before and one I plan to conquer again this year.

In 2013 I won Nanowrimo. Last year I didn’t do so hot thought,. In fact, last year I wrote less than 10,000 words. Ugh!

But, I’m putting that behind me. I’ve already told my family that this is National Novel Writing Month and I plan to participate to the fullest. In other words, do it yourself and don’t bother me…. lol… They understand. We’ve been through this before. I may not have won last year but this is 2015. I plan to not only finish, but to finish early.

Yesssssss! I’m so excited…. can you tell?

Unfortunately, this level of excitement is not likely to last. *Sigh*

So what’s my strategy? Well, the truth is I don’t have one. I’m pantsing it this year.  That basically means I have no outline, no plan, no road map, and no clue. I’m just going to sit down at the computer and write. What pops up (in my head) is what pops out (onto the screen). Yep, I’m a pantser this year. They even gave me this cool looking badge to identify me as such…

pantserDon’t get me wrong, I’ve never been much of a planner. But, I’ve never come to the game completely empty handed either. To top it all off, I’ve also decided to tackle a whole new genre this year. I’m writing a…

*blushing profusely* You must promise not to tell……….

Pinky Swear?

pinky swear

This year I’m writing a little erotica…

It should be great fun. Don’t you think?

Over the next couple of days, while there is still excitement about the process, I will be writing as much as possible so that I can be ahead later on. I know from past experience that there will be days when I just don’t feel like writing. Then there are the Holidays. Who wants to be tethered to a keyboard for Thanksgiving?

I plan to blog about my experiences and my progress because it will give me a little accountability and possibly help motivate me (and others) as the month goes on. Not to mention the fact that blogging is a great way for me to reminisce later (you know, after the very novel I’m working on becomes a bestseller… lol…)

So, with all of that being said, I just have one final question that I’m hoping someone out there can answer for me. Can this blog post count towards my Nanowrimo word count goal? LOL…

Have you participated in NaNoWriMo before?  If so, which years and what were your results? Leave a comment below.
